Acetyl Decapeptide-3
A biomimetic peptide that stimulates hair follicle dermal papilla cells to promote hair growth, often used as part of the Capixyl hair restoration complex.
Overview
Acetyl Decapeptide-3 is a synthetic biomimetic peptide consisting of ten amino acids with an acetyl group at the N-terminus. It was designed to mimic the activity of growth factors that stimulate hair follicle function, particularly targeting dermal papilla cells, which play a central role in regulating the hair growth cycle. The peptide stimulates cell proliferation and extracellular matrix production in dermal papilla cells, helping to maintain an environment conducive to active hair growth.
The development of Acetyl Decapeptide-3 was based on research into the signaling molecules that regulate hair follicle cycling. Dermal papilla cells communicate with hair matrix keratinocytes through growth factors and cytokines to control the transitions between anagen (growth), catagen (regression), and telogen (rest) phases. By providing signals that promote anagen maintenance and re-entry, Acetyl Decapeptide-3 aims to extend the active growth phase and reduce premature follicle regression.
This peptide is a key component of the Capixyl complex, which combines it with red clover extract rich in biochanin A. Biochanin A is a natural isoflavone that inhibits 5-alpha reductase, reducing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) at the follicle level. The combination addresses hair loss through two complementary mechanisms: direct follicle stimulation and anti-androgenic protection.
Clinical studies on Capixyl have demonstrated improvements in hair density, hair growth rate, and the anagen-to-telogen ratio. While these results reflect the combined action of both ingredients, Acetyl Decapeptide-3 contributes the growth-stimulating component of the system. The peptide is found in various professional and consumer hair care products targeting thinning hair.
